Pictures from the alleged redundant memory backup on September 9th, 2004

The following pictures were taken in the warehouse attached to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters' office. The backup of redundant memory was suppose to occur in front of observers. The county did let observers stand in the same room as the voting machines, but the observers were restricted to a small area of the room and several obstacles prohibited any actual observation. As you can see from the following pictures, it was not possible for the observers to see what was going on in the room. You can download all the pictures by going here: download pictures     For the detailed report of the backup process go here: Redundant Memory Transfer Report

These pictures show that except for a small handful, the voting computers were faced away from the observers and they had privacy screens up to block the observers view. These screens can be lowered but the Registrar's employee's refused to do so. On the few occasions when the screen on the closest machine was turned towards the observer, the glare made it impossible to see what was on it.

This picture shows how far away some of the computers were kept from the observation area.
The only people allowed to go near the voting machines were Registrar of Voters' staff members.

How is this process done outside of Riverside County?

This is a picture was taken in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

The picture shows how information is backed up from voting machines in Miami-Dade County. The person in the red shirt is from the county elections department. The man in the floral shirt and the woman holding the coke can are from the county audit and management department. The woman in the white jacket is from the League of Women Voters, and the woman in the brown T-shirt is from the Miami-Dade Election Coalition. (Thanks to Dr. Douglas Jones of the University of Iowa for the above picture)

Notice that in Florida they do a better job of this than in Riverside County...
